La Perouse on south Maui, Hawaii

Excellent For Hiking And Swimming

La Perouse Bay on Maui is located on the southwest corner of the island, and is an incredibly beautiful location for swimming, snorkeling and hiking in the early hours of the day.

La Perouse is also a popular surfing and paddle boarding spot, but in the late afternoon is not one of the better places on Maui to experience Hawaii's rich underwater sealife, as the northwest swells can make the water much rougher.

Before 8 AM is the best time to visit La Perouse, especially if you are planning on taking a short hike toward the lighthouse on the veryla perouse bay for hiking and swimming on maui hawaii. southernmost part of Maui. If you want to snorkel in La Perouse Bay, go to your right as you face the ocean.

Please, observe the signs along the coastline designating private property.

Directions. Head south through the town of Kihei on either South Kihei Road or Hwy. 31 (the upper road that bypasses the traffic and lights on South Kihei Road). At the Shops At Wailea intersection, continue south on Wailea Alanui toward the large, luxurious resorts and the Big Beach parking areas on the right-hand side of the road.

Stay on this road through the lava fields and around several narrow turns in the road. Keep heading south!

As you approach La Perouse, the roadway will narrow and you'll encounter a rockier section of the road and a small parking area to your left. You can park to your left, or continue on around a curve to your right and you'll see a larger parking area (see picture above) fronting La Perouse Bay.

It will take you 15 - 20 minutes from the Big Beach (Makena Park) area to reach La Perouse. But it is worth the drive! Drive slow and take a few minutes to stop and get pictures.

Be courteous to other drivers along the way and leave no valuables in your car!

La Perouse is worth the drive and offers incredible ocean views!
