Shipwreck
Beach
on
Lanai
Shipwreck
Beach is one of the most interesting beaches that you will
visit.
It's on the island of Lana, a short ferry ride from Lahaina
Harbor in Lahaina Town on the west side of Maui.
The
best beach on the island of
Lanai is Hulopoe
Beach on the south side of the island. In fact, it's just
a short walk from the harbor at Manele Bay.
Take
the ferry to Lanai from Maui. Photos

Maui
To Lanai
Ferry
Experience
another Hawaiian island and take the ferry
to Lanai from Lahaina Harbor. It's a short 45-minute ride
to Manele Bay and makes a wonderful day trip.
The
giant green sea turtles
seen in water around Maui are one thing you might experience
while snorkeling at various locations. They are called Honu
in the Hawaiian language and are an endangered species.

Lahaina
Lahaina
is on the west side of Maui and is absolutely a must-see
town on the island. The town of Lahaina is filled with history,
has a major harbor filled with tour boats and fishing charters,
and has a variety of shops and restaurants.
In
the early days of Hawaiian life, it was both the playground
of the Hawaiian royalty and the capital of the islands during
King Kamehameha The Great's reign. Lahaina was also a bustling
port for whaling ships and cargo-carrying vessels from many
countries. The town had a bawdy reputation as a sailor's
town, where
just about everything could be purchased.
Today,
Lahaina is the shopping mecca of the island. It annually
hosts over 2 million visitors, mostly to Front Street and
a few side streets where you'll find restaurants and small
craft stores.
One
area to explore in downtown Lahaina is the harbor. Most of
the whale watching tours, snorkeling cruises, submarine rides,
and sport fishing charters leave from this harbor. The Pacific
Whale Foundation has a retail store on Front Street and
their tours also leave from the harbor in Lahaina.
You'll
find a wide selection of restaurants in Lahaina along Front
Street. One of the best hamburgers on the island is at Cool
Cat Cafe in the Wharf Cinema Center. Further north on
Front Street, you'll find Kimo's,
Moose McGilleycuddy's
and Lahaina Fish Company
serving a wide variety of Hawaiian island fare.
For
family entertainment in Lahaina, consider the magic show at
Warren and Annabelle's
and the spectacular Hawaiian stage production at The Maui
Myth and Magic Theatre called Ulalena.
Looking
for a place to stay in the town of Lahaina? Check out the
historic Plantation Inn,
one of the best B&B inns on Maui. Built in 1901, the Pioneer
Inn is next to the harbor and is filled with legends and
interesting stories, and has a restaurant attached to the
inn. Further north on Front Street is the Makai
Inn which sits on the edge of the ocean.
Lahaina
means merciless sun in the Hawaiian language, and
it's normally warmer in the town of Lahaina than anywhere
else on the island. It's a National Historic Landmark and
a walking tour is available.
There
is a lot to do and see in Lahaina. Plan to spend the day walking
Front Street and visit the Baldwin Museum. It's a great place
to relax and experience the Hawaiian culture.
