Swinging
Bridges Hike On Maui
The
Swinging Bridges Hike on Maui, Hawaii is an easy hike with
a mild incline as you leave the parking area. It's on the
north/northeast side of the West Maui mountains, just outside
the Wailuku business area.
The
Swinging Bridges hike on Maui is one of the most accessible
hikes on the island. It's easy-to-find and about 2 miles north
of Wailuku's Main Street and the downtown area of Wailuku.
The
hike is 2.5 miles each way with well-marked paths. It's often
muddy with pools of water from an overnight rainfall.
The
hike to the first of two swinging, cable-supported bridges
is just over a mile. The second wood plank bridge is not far
from the first one, and stretches over an area of dense forest.
Along
the path to the dam and pool, you'll see a bamboo forest to
your right. It's a great place to stop and take pictures.
Suggestions.
*
Go early in the morning when the sun is not as hot.
*
Take plenty of water.
*
Also, take a swim suit and towel, as you might want to jump
into a stream or the pool at the dam.
*
Do not leave any valuables in your vehicle and make sure it's
locked.
*
Walk slowly and take a few breaks if you feel winded.
*
Make sure both hands are free when walking over the bridges.
*
Take a digital camera for excellent pictures.
There
is an $8 entrance fee to the park. There are soft drinks and
water for sale at the entrance station. The park closes promptly
at 5 PM.
Make sure you leave the parking area before closing time.
Once the gates are closed, you will not be able to get your
car out of the parking area.
